Olasijibomi Ogundele, CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, has publicly responded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s declaration that he is wanted for alleged diversion of funds and money laundering.
In a video shared on X, Ogundele denied the accusations, describing himself not as a thief but a “fugitive” caught in a contractual dispute with the Enugu State government.
He claimed that a major construction project—comprising schools and a proposed 69-story building—became financially unviable due to rising material costs and local opposition.
“Cement was ₦7,000 when we started; now it’s ₦10,000,” - Ogundele
Tearfully, he detailed his initial investment, including the mobilization of 42 engineers and personal sacrifices such as a back injury sustained during the project. Ogundele also alleged that his team faced threats in local communities, including gunfire, which further complicated execution.
The businessman expressed frustration over the Enugu State government’s decision to pursue legal action, stating that economic instability had rendered the project untenable. He vowed to present himself at the EFCC office to clear his name.
The EFCC’s notice, issued earlier today, accuses Ogundele of serious financial misconduct, though specific figures remain undisclosed.
